Two people were killed in a shooting late on the evening of March 12 in the Naglee Park neighborhood of San Jose. City police have classified the incident as a double homicide—the fifth and sixth since the start of 2026.
Circumstances of the incident
At 10:11 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, San Jose Police Department (SJPD) patrol officers responded to a call in the 700 block of East Santa Clara Street.
Inside a two-story commercial building, officers discovered two adult men with gunshot wounds.
Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
San Jose police cordoned off the area between 14th Street and 16th Street to conduct an investigation.
Information from witnesses and local media
According to KTVU and CBS News Bay Area, the shooting occurred in a building housing a market and a beauty salon. The crime scene is located across from Van Florist and next to the Sacramental Native American Church of San Jose.
Local residents reported hearing a loud argument before the shots were fired (according to KTVU). Immediately after the incident, witnesses spotted a vehicle speeding away from the scene. During the investigation, detectives deployed drones and conducted door-to-door interviews with residents (according to ABC7).
Status of the Investigation
The motive for the crime has not yet been determined. At this time, the SJPD has not officially released the identities of the victims. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the San Jose Police Department is asking any potential witnesses to contact the detectives.
