FAA cuts SFO arrivals by one-third
The Federal Aviation Administration has ended simultaneous landings on San Francisco International Airport’s parallel runways, which are separated by 750 feet. Maximum capacity dropped from 54 to 36 flights per hour. The restriction coincides with a six-month repair of two runways, according to SFO officials. Delays of 30 minutes or more will affect up to 25% of arriving flights. United Airlines and Alaska Airlines are adjusting schedules.
Prosecutors charge former SF human rights chief with 19 felonies
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the arrest of Sheryl Davis, former director of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, on 19 charges including misuse of public funds and perjury. Prosecutors allege Davis funneled more than $4.5 million from the Dream Keeper Initiative to nonprofit Collective Impact, run by her domestic partner James Spingola. Spingola faces four counts of aiding and abetting. Both surrendered to police and posted bail.
Newsom signs order tightening AI company requirements
Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order requiring artificial intelligence companies with state contracts to disclose safeguards against illegal content, algorithmic bias and civil rights violations. State agencies have 120 days to develop new certification procedures, according to the governor’s office. The order also directs the Department of Technology to create standards for labeling AI-generated images and videos.
SF man charged in girlfriend’s shooting death
Nation Wood, 25, told police he was practicing dry firing a pistol in his Sunset District apartment and didn’t know the weapon was loaded, according to KTVU. The bullet passed through a wall and struck 22-year-old Samantha Emge, who was taking a shower. San Francisco prosecutors charged Wood with involuntary manslaughter. A judge set bail at $300,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 9.
Cell outage disrupts San Francisco 911 service
Emergency calls from mobile phones in San Francisco were dropped or delayed Monday due to outages affecting AT&T, Xfinity and Comcast networks, the Department of Emergency Management said. An internal SFPD alert warned officers that “911 is working intermittently” and that stations might receive a surge of direct calls. The problem was resolved by 4 p.m., according to Mission Local.
Walnut Creek man faces third murder charge
Contra Costa County prosecutors filed a third murder charge against Howard Wang, 43, KTVU and CBS Bay Area reported. Wang already faces charges in the September 2025 killings of his wife Linlin Guo and mother-in-law Beimin Cheng in Walnut Creek. The new charge relates to the shooting death of a 41-year-old man in Los Angeles County more than a year before the double murder. Prosecutors say Wang’s domestic partner, 45-year-old Yan Wang, is connected to both cases.
