A driver in a stolen vehicle collided head-on with a Muni bus Thursday night during a police chase near Lake Merced, San Francisco Fire Department said.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:18 p.m. at 595 John Muir Drive, according to SFFD. The stolen car was traveling in the wrong direction when it struck the bus, ending the pursuit in the southern reaches of the city.
The number of people injured and the severity of their injuries had not been released as of Friday morning, SFFD said. The agency also did not disclose how many passengers were aboard the Muni bus at the time of impact.
San Francisco Police Department had not issued an official statement on the pursuit as of Friday morning, including how the chase began or what route it followed. It was not immediately clear whether the driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody or faced charges.
John Muir Drive runs along the southern shore of Lake Merced, connecting residential neighborhoods in western San Francisco to Daly City. The road is part of Muni’s service network for the city’s southwest corridor.
